The Body Holiday - St. Lucia

Only a 4 hour non-stop flight from ATL lands me & my hot hubby in paradise. We're greeted by St. Lucia Helicopters and whisked above the rain forest to our North end retreat where we'll spend the next 7 nights at Le Sport.

Le Sport is an all-inclusive upscale resort with 3 restaurants and a deli. The compound includes body treatments, meals, drinks, water sports, sunshine, beach and blue clear water.

ON check-in you are given the weekly activity schedule which is easy to follow. It's also posted on a board outside the clubhouse. We enjoyed tube rides, catamarran outings, snorkeling and kayaking. It's adventurous and you can do as much or as little as you wish. There is something for everyone - young and old - singles and married. Classes include yoga, fencing, golf, tennis, archery, aerobics etc. It's a long list.

The bars are hopping - champagne is poured and the staff are friendly and helpful. It would be a bit challenging if wheelchair bound but for folks with physical limitations they offer courtesy shuttles to the spa so you don't climb the 80+ stairs to the spa. The rooms were on a scale of 1 to 10 - probably a 6+ - lots of rooms were in the renovation process. No TV's but i didn't even notice until the 3rd day. Communication leaves a bit to be desired and not recommended if you're a Type A - unless you really really want to veg. Internet was a little slow and they only had 2 computers. Staff was very accommodating and the on site manager very hands on and visible.

Driving is not recommended -spend money on a taxi instead. The roads are very narrow, winding, limited signage and it's a steep drop down the hills or into the ditches that run along the driver's side. Did i mention you drive on the left side of the road? A taxi costs $80 from Hewanorra airport to the north end of the island. Bring motion sickness pills if you get quesy or you can hop on a helicopter and grab a taxi to the hotel. Helicopter =$120pp + $20-25 for taxi.

We toured the sulphur springs, Piton mountains and drove through several little towns. On our next visit we would like to try zip lining through the rain forest.

There is only one road that circles the island - so if you opt to take the taxi from the international airport - check-in or out early and do it on the way. Spectacular views and sunsets. The east side of the island has nicer beaches and no wind.
